Current Issues In My Professional Context- Where am I? What next?

Image result for first day at school

Every new academic year starts of with excitement, anticipation and few phobias. I can align myself with William Blake's  'The School Boy'.  Eventhough I am currently teaching in a high school , I have taught in the neighbouring primary schools which kind of makes it easy to find familiar faces, where children grow up and kind of connect with you with smiles and makes the year flow more smoothly. I find that children are easy to connect whether they are new or old. They have innocence, honesty and the spark fo life that instantly connects.

Our students come from the lower socio-economic strata have few issues with necessary resources and is directly linked to their achievement (Johnston, 2015). Measures are in place with various Ministry of education initiatives to diminish the gap of achievement amongst various ethnic group, eg: Kotahitanga, Manaikalani etc. the need for collaboration to help our youngsters succeed is ever more important to collaborate  with educators, employers, families, Council, government, community organisations(Auckland, 2017).

Collegiality and adhereing to professional standards has been a unanimous shared platform of knowledge and skills. Mentoring is a key aspect where experienced teachers support the new teachers while embarking on their journey into teaching. The generation gap in the modern technological age has created a huge divide between the old, wise and experienced with new and beginning teachers. The youngsters who are more technopro always undermine the old experienced who have slowed down and could be at times skeptical in certain instances about the total immersion of technology into education. Youngsters have stepped up into leadership roles which is a good thing, but with lack of collaboration could lead to deficit teaching. Collaboration (Jones, 2014)
is a huge ask from the students if we as teachers are not able to adhere to the norms or model honest, sharing and growing together in knowledge excellence.

Lastly  what could I do in this scenario, I have learnt to learn which enabled me to be on par with the rest of the teaching personnel, and in a way trudging my path inbetween the experienced and the new beginners. I firmly believe and am still open minded and positive that Collaboration might happen and we all will be able to reap the fruit of excellence and raise achievement and excited to be back to school. Collaboration though prescribed as a necessary 21st century skill, how ready are we all to collaborate and lead by example.
